Australia Day is on January 26 and is a national day in Australia. For some people it’s a day to celebrate Australia’s culture and community, and for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it can be a painful day connected to the start of colonization. Recognizing it at school can be a warm, respectful way to learn about Australia while also making space for truth, empathy, and belonging for everyone.
