Day of Silence

Thursday, Mar 19, 2026 · Cultural

Nyepi, known as the Day of Silence, is a Balinese Hindu New Year. It is a quiet day of reflection. On this day, people stay home, avoid travel and entertainment, and spend time resting, praying, and thinking. The day before, there are lively parades with large handmade statues called ogoh-ogoh. Learning about it at school helps Balinese students feel seen and respected. For other students, it builds cultural curiosity and shows how different cultures value reflection, balance, and renewal.
