Nowruz is the 3,000-year-old Persian New Year, marked at the spring equinox, when families set a haft-sin table with seven symbolic items. Iranian, Afghan, Tajik, Azerbaijani, Kurdish, and Zoroastrian students see their actual new year honored, one that matters more than January 1.
