Stonewall (Origins of Pride)

Sunday, Jun 28, 2026 · Cultural

Stonewall is an important part of the history behind Pride. It remembers the Stonewall uprising in New York City in 1969, when LGBTQ+ people stood up for their rights and safety. In the classroom, it can be a thoughtful way to talk about courage, fairness, and why everyone deserves respect. It helps students understand that Pride is not only a celebration, but also a reminder of the people who helped create more visibility, acceptance, and belonging.
